Christmas Family Traditions 0 comments
By Shelley Cassar, Providence momWe wanted to come up with a new and fun tradition for the kids this Christmas. One that they would look forward to year after year and more importantly, one that would bring their attention back to what Christmas is truly a celebration of!
So we are starting a new one this year. Each member of the family will write a letter to Jesus and in this letter will write at least one thing that they are going to give of themselves to Him this year. Example, I have written that I am going to read a chapter in my Bible every night this coming year and I will look for more spontaneous teaching opportunities to teach my children about the Lord. Once the letters are written we will put them in a box, wrap them and place them under the tree for Jesus, with the other presents.
Christmas morning before we do anything else, we will light birthday candles on a "Kringle", a yummy danish in the shape of a wreath (this is actually a tradition that a lovely lady in my Bible study inspired me to include). After the kids blow out the candles we will each open our present for Jesus and read the letters aloud to each other.
My hope is that we will keep the boxes and add to them each year and also look back to see what gifts we gave the year before and how well we did or did not do with our gift giving.
What traditions has your family held on to each Christmas or what traditions are you just now starting? I'd love to hear yours too!
From our family to yours MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I don't know about you but I loooove a good blog! I have found more great decorating tips, quick and easy recipes, crafts for the kids and so many other clever ideas on blogs.
One of my favorites is http://sara-mincy.blogspot.com/. She is one of the most creative and colorful bloggers I have seen. She shares some really great ideas and her artwork is so fun!! She covers it all from decorating, recipes to crafts and kids.
She also has an etsy shop. You can check it out at http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=18769311&ref=em
I have never met her but if I ever do I will be sure and let her know that because of her I am excited about using color in my home!

Fort Pitt Project 0 comments
The 5th graders have been at it again. This year in history class, they are studying about Explorers to 1815.
This week they completed a project that is a replica of Fort Pitt in the Ohio River Valley. It was contested during the French and Indian War.
As part of the replica, the class planted grass seed around the “river”, so over Christmas break, it should grow to show the fertile river valley.
Great job 5th graders!

No Regret 2 comments

I wrote this poem years ago when my children were very small and I would sometimes dream of days that were uneventful and quiet. I came to realize that those days would come soon enough, but we can never get back the days when our children are small. Enjoy every moment and make the most of every day. You won't regret it. - Barb
No Regret
Silence filled the room as I awoke this morning.
My sleep had been restful- no fussy babies to tend to, no sick children to care for.
I felt relaxed and comfortable just lying there in bed listening to the stillness.
Slowly I crept out of bed.
There were no breakfasts to quickly make or piles of laundry to wash.
Today would be a slow relaxing day.
A day with no schedule to keep, no soccer practice, gymnastics, or swim meets.
Nothing to interrupt the solitude of the day.
My house was neat and tidy.
Every book in its place, no toys to stumble over on the way out the door.
As I slowly began preparing for the day, the quiet somehow annoyed me.
There were no noises of play, shouts of victory or cries of defeat.
No battles to referee, no giggles or squeals of delight.
There was nothing, only silence.
It seemed only yesterday I was busy taking care of children.
All the duties and responsibilities sometimes wore me out and I would be short tempered.
How many times I snapped, "Pick up your toys!"
I regret those times now,
I wish I had been more patient, more understanding of a child's mind.
I wish I would have picked up one of the many strewn books and sat down for a story and a hug.
I wish I would have enjoyed the noise of play rather than yelling, "Quiet down!"
I wish I had done some things differently.
But, I was so busy taking care of my children, that I felt I rarely had time to
just be with my children.
To just sit and talk
or watch a butterfly
or play in the sprinkler.
Now, I have time, but all that is left is silence... and regret.
My thoughts raced.
I never wanted to end up like this.
-Old and alone without even happy memories to keep me company.
Why didn't I see what was happening?
My heart began to ache and as the ache traveled up my throat and tears washed down my cheeks, I heard the silence broken by a cry,
a cry of regret...
Suddenly, I sat up, my face wet from tears, my heart pounding.
There it was again, a cry.
It was the baby,
she must be having a bad dream.
I rushed out of bed to her room and held her close.
I stroked her hair and prayed for her
and soon she fell back into a peaceufl sleep.
As I sat there watching her, I prayed, "Thank you Lord!
Thank you Lord for interrupted sleep and for the priviliege of comforting a fearful heart. Thank you Lord!"

As I climbed back into my own bed, I prayed, "Lord, help me not to be so
busy taking care of my children that I neglect being with my children.
Because Lord, when I do grow old and and my precious gifts are gone,
I want to wake up to 'No regrets'!
Oh yes, and Thank you Lord.... for dreams!"

5th Annual Moms Christmas Brunch 2 comments
We enjoyed time getting to know each other, and learned some very interesting information about each other. Some of us were so interesting, we even won prizes!

You might want to ask around to find out which Providence mom has been on Wheel of Fortune, who has been on Good Morning America, who has been a D.J., and who is tone deaf.
Who knew we were such an interesting and talented group?
If you would like to help plan the next Mothers of Providence event, please let us know by replying to this post.
Blessings to families in need 0 comments
The Providence students did it again!
We collected about 1,750 cans of food for families in need this holiday season.
Thank you for providing much needed food to the families of Northwest Arkansas.
Presenting The Christmas County Spelling Bee 0 comments
Providence Classical Christian Academy Presents the Lower Elementary School Production of THE CHRISTMAS COUNTY SPELLING BEE(2008 Word Music)created by Celeste Clydesdale
Many scholars believe that there are over 700 different names and titles given to Jesus in Scripture. Wonderful Counselor. Prince of Peace. Everlasting Father. The list goes on and on. Even a brief reflection on the names of Jesus brings power and strength to our faith. “The Christmas County Spelling Bee” is centered entirely around this theme.
What do you do with a town whose annual tradition is a living nativity – and everyone wants to participate? Christmas County has decided to settle the assignment of cast by conducting a spelling bee where each spelling word is a name for our precious Lord. As each child is eliminated from the spelling bee, he or she is given a costume and takes his or her place for the grand finale – the living nativity! As the musical unfolds, the contestants learn more about the character and nature of our Savior.
Worshipful, bright, and energetic, The Christmas County Spelling Bee will engage the hearts of us all this Christmas as it reminds us that "Jesus is the only name that saves."
Mark your calendars for this wonderful 30 minute production followed by fun and fellowship at PCCA’s annual Christmas party!!
