Missions to Guatemala
I know that many of you are really brave. I’ve heard your stories and know of your adventures.
We are not the same.
I am terrified of a lot of things.
There are two really huge things that (currently) scare me more than the other less huge (though not insignificant) things.
They are:
1. Flying
2. Leaving the country
So guess what God has orchestrated...
Stanley, Milly and I are flying to Guatemala.
I can barely even talk about it. When I was little, I used to BEG God to PLEASE NEVER EVER MAKE ME A MISSIONARY.
Some friends of ours, The Carney’s, have been called to do just that. They will move their family of six to Guatemala to live and work at an orphanage.
They have four kids, all boys--ages 10, 7, 6 and 2.
They are laying aside their regular, normal lives to move to a foreign country and run a dorm for orphaned babies.
Is there a higher calling?
Our family is 100% behind their ministry.
I just kind of hoped to be 100% behind their ministry from the comfort of my own home.
But that is not God’s plan.
We will be traveling to Guatemala with 33 other people on March 20 - 27. Our group’s priorities are to prepare the living quarters for The Carney’s and to love on the kids.
Those goals are the same for my family, but equally important to me is that our eyes are opened to the world.
I want us to see God as we’ve never seen Him…away from our comfortable home with our toys and excess.
I want our eyes to be opened to understand our blessings. I want to see all that we can do for others.
I'd like to give you some information on this sweet family and their ministry so that you can begin lifting them in prayer.
Only Grace (www.onlygrace.com) is the ministry of the Carney family.
The Carney's will be living in and overseeing the baby dorm. "Babies" are children from birth to age 5. There are anywhere from 60 to 150 children in this dorm and they’ll have three Guatemalan assistants.
The orphanage is Casa Para NiƱos Aleluya. (http://www.casaparaninos.com/) Its website tells the story better than I could.
The Carney's are so excited to be used as the living hands of God. I am amazed at their willingness. They must raise 100% of their funding...a task that seems overwhelming, but they know that God will provide every penny. I am learning from the example of their faith.
Our family’s prayer needs can pretty much be summed up in one word: PROTECTION.
I am so not kidding when I say that I am afraid. However, I don’t want my fears to overshadow the purpose of the trip.
I want Milly to see that God is so much bigger than any emotion that her crazy mama might feel. I want her to know that obedience is sometimes accompanied by fear, but we must be obedient.
We have a couple of fundraising opportunities that I’d like to share with you. We are trying to raise $47,000 to pay for our trip and to be able to fund the projects that we will be working on at Casa.
On Valentine’s Day, our group is going to be babysitting at our church from 6 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The charge is $15 per child for the first two and then $10 for every child after that. It will be an organized time with activities and plenty of fun things to do. Snacks will be provided. Our church is located in Tontitown. To reserve a spot, please call 479-228-2702. (Calling after
5 is preferred)
The church is:
Freedom Fellowship
990 West Henri de Tonti Blvd
Tontitown
Also, Milly is making custom address labels for a donation. She can do just about anything you’d like and no donation is too small.
If you’d like more information on any of these, just email me at beth@casaderogers.com.

The Krause House prayers are with you all the way there and back Beth.
And we might just need some new address labels. I'll have to check.
Millys return address labels are GREAT! I encourage all of you to purchase labels from her by making a donation for the mission trip. She made them for our family, and did a wonderful job. I'm proud of her for being so creative to raise money for missions. Beth, should we get some order forms to leave in the front office of both campuses?
I second that, Milly's labels are great, we love ours! I know this trip will be life changing for your family. You have our prayers and support!
Beth, Thank you so much for your raw honesty and vulnerability. I teared up the entire way through your blog entry! May God "blow your mind" through this trip! I can't wait to hear about it!
