Mom To Mom ~ Question Of The Week
Many of the Providence families are counting our blessings as the Ice Storm of 2009 has come and gone. We have heard countless stories of how God has provided in the midst of the storm. We would love to hear the blessings that you have to share from the past week.
Please COMMENT to let us hear how God was glorified in your home as He provided protection and provision even in the midst of the storm.
The Krause House was without power from Tuesday morning early until late Wednesday night. So not nearly as long as A LOT of people. Our home doesn't heat with our fireplace, so we we went up the street to my Mom's.
We were very blessed to be warm! God was so gracious to us. We just slipped up and down the street sharing food and warmth with our extended family that landed with all of us. We did have a crowded house. But....we were blessed to be "the shelter" in the storm.
We were amazingly blessed in that we did not lose power! The lights flickered but always stayed on. We prayed for all those without; that they would have a warm place to sleep. We also prayed for safety for the men out working so hard to restore power to everyone as we watched the big utility trucks going up and down our road. Saturday morning, at breakfast with a friend, the restaurant parking lot was filled with enormous trucks, and the booths inside filled with men from as far away as North Carolina, here to help us. They had eaten and were gone by 7:45 to start another long day restoring power to our area.
I'd love to hear more about others who endured power outages, how you all fared, and how our family can continue to pray as you clean up from the storm.
We lost power on Tuesday and it was not restored until the second quarter of the Super Bowl last night!!
The first day was kind of an adventure. Well. Like, the first 3 hours were kind of an adventure. We have a fireplace, but we ran out of wood Wednesday morning. We lost a zillion trees, though, so my husband cut some more wood. Wednesday night was horrible. We woke up to the house (with fire burning) registering 48 degrees!
That may or may not have caused me to fall apart in a crying fit.
Thursday, we bought a generator. I am so thankful that we were able to find one and thankful that we were able to buy one. We were able to turn on the heat and a few lights. I truly felt so blessed to have that ability.
The rest of the week was not a big deal. We have a gas water heater, so we always had hot water. (Note to self: Never have an electric water heater.)
It is amazing what perspective the week brought to our family.
If my husband had been told that he would have to go 6 days without power, he would have been certain that his business would have ceased to exist. I absolutely loved not having television. I missed the computer a little...but not too much. My daughter had serious electronic withdrawal for the first few days. It kind of hurt my heart that she "needed" those things so much.
Ice Storm 2009 will also be known to her as The Time When Mommy Took Away All My Fun...things will be changing a bit around here.
Through it all, we found that God met every one of our needs. Our only tree that wasn't damaged is the one that could have fallen right through our home. We were able to help a few neighbors and received help from them, as well.
(And best of all...we had a few more days to work on the Science Fair project!!)
We were without power for 5 days and the first two were the hardest. God really had to work on my attitude. I learned so much from watching my children about making the best of a tough situation. The last three days I just enjoyed getting to spend the extra time with my family. God met everyone of our needs during this time and used it to bring us closer to Him.
