And The Patriot Pride Award Goes To... 6 comments

We all definately know who gets the "Patriot Pride" award for the first day of school! Did anyone miss seeing the Shankle family van in the parking lot at the lower campus this morning? On the front, it said, "Mom/Co-Teacher," and on the back, it said, "We love Providence!"

The first day is always so much fun to be reunited with the Providence family.

Welcome back Patriots! It's going to be another fabulous year!

Why We Love The University Model 2 comments

Submitted by Debra Guthrie
It's the time of year we have all been waiting expectantly for, and our kids are starting back to school. We have purchased all of the necessary uniforms, books, and school supplies. We have spent hours planning, organizing, ordering, and checking off school supply lists to make sure our kids are completely prepared for the first day of class.

It is at this point every year that I am reminded to do a heart check, and ask myself "why do I choose to educate my children in the University Model?" What is the main reason?

I know they are receiving a great college preparatory education. They have wonderful friends and excellent teachers in the classroom. It's fun, and they absolutely love it. But what is the main reason we choose the University Model for our children's education year after year?

For me, it goes back to Deuteronomy 6. I want to use every moment I can to pass along to my children the heritage of the Lord. I want to "talk to them along the way" as we're going about our day. Some of the greatest opportunities I have had to talk with my children have been during school days at home in our satellite classroom.

It simply gives us more opportunities to have important conversations as they come up. When they were little, they would ask questions like, "Why is the sky blue?" It's at these precious moments, that I get the chance to point them to our Creator.

As they have gotten older, their questions have become more complex. Many times I have to smile and say, "I don't know, but let's look that up." Even still, I have the opportunity to point them to God and His Word. With the time I get to spend with them because of the University Model schedule, I am able to teach them to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength." By His Grace, I get the opportunity to "diligently teach His Word to my children, and talk with them when we sit in our house, and when we walk by the way, when we wake up, and when we go to sleep."

The question I always pose to myself at this time each year is, "Am I taking every moment captive to teach these truths to my children?" Is there a moment, an hour, or day that goes by that I forget and get caught up in my "to do" list?

I loved what Dr. Plumlee shared with us in the Providence parent training seminar Friday morning. He shared how each day in his home they have a "quiet time." Between 6:30 and 7 p.m. each evening, their family unplugs. No TV, no ipods, no telephones, just quiet time spent alone with God. Each family member and each child picks a different place in the house, or outside, and simply reads Gods Word, prays, and just sits still waiting on God.

My hope and prayer for each of us as Patriot moms at the beginning of this exciting time of year is that we will spend time in Gods Word, pray, and just listen and wait upon God so that when the moments arise during our days with our children, we will remember to point our children to Christ.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

"Hear O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.

You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."

Patriot Moms,

If you have used Providence books that are on the current book list, you may still have an opportunity to sell them. We still have incoming PCCA families who would love to take advantage of purchasing used books. Please "comment" to this blog post and include the books you have available.

Speech Com 101 0 comments

Did you know that a staggering 70% of Christian kids will abandon their faith once they leave home? These statistics represent kids like yours and mine that are being raised in a Christian home, attend a Christian school, and go to church regularly. These are kids that know the truth and they even know why they believe it. The predicament that occurs as they enter the world is that “they do not know how to communicate their faith in a culturally relevant way” (Teresa Moon, Institute of Cultural Communicators).

Teresa Moon was a fabulous speaker at NAUMS who has dedicated her life to training children of all ages to communicate with confidence and passion. She encourages and facilitates the students to take public platforms to impact those around them with the truth of Christ. This year she brought a dozen students to the conference and let them lead the seminars. I was BLOWN away. She has an amazing method of teaching children to command the audience that doesn’t look anything like the “speech” classes that we took years ago.

Her message was that it is not enough to just teach our children the Truth. It’s not even enough to teach them why we believe the Truth. We don’t want “parrots” that only repeat what they’ve been told. They must be able to effectively articulate and debate their faith in a way that their peers can understand. Moon purports that it’s a matter of life and death. I agree.
Several of our PCCA teachers, administration, and parents, are excited about implementing these techniques into all of the disciplines at Providence. I can’t wait to see what God has planned for our Communicators for Christ!

2 Corinthians 10:5 (The Message)
3-6The world is unprincipled. It's dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn't fight fair. But we don't live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren't for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.
